The role of the Medium in the Spiritualist Movement is an extremely vital one, and I do not think Spiritualist Mediums realise and appreciate how important their role is in educating people about Spiritualism and its philosophy on life.
The Medium is actually an ambassador for the Spirit World, a representative for Spirit. In fact there is no real difference in job roles between priest and Medium. Spiritualists believe in God or something far greater and spiritual than themselves. Both are representing their respective religions on a spiritual level: helping people to find their spiritual self and providing advice and encouragement where necessary. Naturally, the main difference between the mainstream religious representatives and a Spiritualist Medium is the latter actually tries to prove there is an afterlife than just merely preaching and promising it.
Spiritualist Mediums like the mainstream religious representatives are flawed. We have our weaknesses and strengths, while some Mediums are more skilled in linking with Spirit than others, which is reflected in the quality of readings given. The role of the Spiritualist Medium is twofold first of all, when linking with the Spirit World it is not to provide information of a fortune-telling nature. But one of proving the existing of a form of ‘thought energy’ often termed the soul, the spirit, which leaves the body after the death of the physical body with its memory and personality still intact: the continuation of life after death. Secondly, the Medium should be passing on words of spiritual wisdom and spiritual guidance that may or may not have come from the Spirit World. Both are equally important to our religion: Spiritualism.
