Personal Responsability

The human race has always devalued the importance of personal responsibility and in its avoidance of accepting accountability for its actions it has spent its entire evolution looking at various ways of placing the onus of blame onto someone or something else. In fact the human race worships the blame culture’.

Our ancient ancestors watched the sun rise everyday and soon they gave the sun a godlike personality, and in ignorance born out of fear primitive man started to worship the sun to make sure it rose every day. Over time the natural progression was to have gods representing all aspects of life, for instance, rain, fertility, war and love. These gods were worshipped and they played an extremely important part in our ancestor’s lives, and when times were hard the primitive tribes believed the gods were displeased with them, so they progressed to human sacrifices to appease the gods. When Christianity came it put a stop to human sacrifices and the worshipping of many gods, this practice was soon replaced by one God that has many faiths. The one true God represents all things good and spiritual, while all things bad and unspiritual were attributed to the ‘blame’ scapegoat: the Devil and not Man.

With the birth of Christianity it taught that everything good was the work or influence of God, and vice versa, everything bad was the work or influence of the Devil. Children were born sinful, why? Was it because as children they were learning, growing, being noisy and mischievous whilst growing into adults and developing minds of their own? As ‘small adults’ with their own thoughts and ideas they often questioned current family and community traditions? If the religious hierarchy were questioned, or disagreed with something, the individual was accused of blasphemy or doing the Devils work and punished accordingly.

From a religious perspective personal responsibility for a person’s actions has shifted from worshipping many gods to blaming the Devil for the bad and dreadful things that individuals do, with the individuals laying blame firmly at the feet of the Devil for their unacceptable actions. To achieve salvation you must seek forgiveness from God normally via a church representative, such as a priest. I personally do not believe that by just saying words to confess ones sins and then being told God forgives you are good enough. How do I really know that God has forgiven me? What has happened to my responsibility as a human being to take personal responsibility for my actions? Forgiveness is between you and your God. How genuine are you in seeking forgiveness, is it enough for you to change and make amends for your actions? You should not be ashamed of admitting and acknowledging your flaws and weaknesses. In fact it can give you strength in dealing with particular situation.

Today our society and culture is still based and being influenced by centuries of avoiding the truth, the quest for answers to problems that arise in our lives that often we have little control over. Because society today does not place any value on integrity and honesty, it is has become almost sinful to admit personal responsibility for our actions to the extent that we are punished for our truthfulness while others get away with being dishonest, deceitful, manipulative, and cruel.

It is our choice to be a good or bad citizen and whatever pathway you choose you should be prepared to accept responsibility for your actions; albeit good and bad. There are always factors that make us decide what action to take or the way we react in a situation, but it is our choice, and often we are afraid of the outcome if we accept the situation and to genuinely admit personal responsibility. Society should place greater emphasis on helping the individual to do the right thing in life, to value and reward honesty and integrity in a person. Sadly for the human race the attitude has become ‘if you cannot beat them join them’, and the meaning of human sacrifice now takes on a different meaning. It is the sacrifice of our spirituality and everything that encompasses it like truth, honesty, sincerity, integrity, principles, and behavioural attitude. It is rather frightening, for what will be remembered of our civilization, in the future when archaeologists discover us? Certainly not our spiritual wisdom, maybe it will be our drive to achieve materialism no matter what it costs or who we trample on, steal from, or lie about. A civilisation that was afraid to speak the truth, and acknowledge its spirituality and to take personal responsibility for its actions.

Society today through technology is a ‘throw away society’ we love junk food and the products we purchase are often replaced within the year as new technological advancements replace the old. Even personal relationships are fickle. Companies do not value their customers and yet they are prepared to take your money, and when you complain about the service or product they revert back to the old adage ‘blame’ often making you feel it is your fault for purchasing the product in the first place! This is clearly known as the blame game. Ask yourself this question, is the human race truly happy? Take a good look around and what do you see? People are rushing around doing their everyday business but have little reason to smile, people are becoming more irritated and volatile they are stressed often feeling others are not being supportive and caring. People today seem to be literally carrying the world and all its problems upon they shoulders. As a human race we are not happy because people worldwide are not happy.

We have lost our way and forgotten the true meaning and value behind life. It is such a shame because the human race has so much to offer. There are a lot of good people in this world trying their best to survive, often devoting their life to the well-being of others. It is such a pity that the human race fails miserably to appreciate and value those people who care about life and those who do take personal responsibility for their actions.
