The role of the Medium in Spiritualism is to prove the continuation of life after death of the physical body, and to achieve this they must take responsibility to ensure they have developed to their full potential.
When a Medium works it is a team effort between the Medium, their Spirit Guide and the Spirit communicator, and it only takes one of them to fail in their responsibility for the reading to be deemed a failure.
Many Mediums who work the Spiritualist circuit do not know who their guide is because their faith in Spirit is so strong, that there is no need to know. However, our own Spirit Guides believe that too much onus is put upon Spirit, and that the onus of developing should be shared. They gave this example, that while waiting for your train to take you to work you stood next to the same person every day. You may ask the stranger the odd question but the response is short and to the point, and it would have no impact on your life if someone else stood next to you. Now consider the alternative, you start to make conversation and after a period of time a bond of friendship develops. Information begins to flow more freely; both parties begin to understand what each requires of the other in that friendship. You both enjoy each other’s company, and you begin to swap ideas and experiences. This is the same between Medium and Spirit Guide you both have lessons to learn from each other, both have experiences and advice that is invaluable to each other. The friendship flourishes, and great improvements and advancements are made particularly with the way the Medium works.
In essence the Spirit Guide is the Mediums parent, and as the child would you ignore the parent? As you know the parent does not always get things right no matter how well intentional their actions or advice is. This is the same for the Spirit Guide, they are not perfect, they are flawed, and after all they are just ‘dead’ human beings! So you must have a say in your development, but do be reasonable with your requests, always push your Spirit Guide to improve the way you work; particularly with the way Spirit communicators present the information to you. For instance, if you would like a name and address from the Spirit communicator for you recipient, work on this aspect in your development circle, ensuring that your Guide communicates with the Spirit communicator until this becomes a natural part of the way you work. Some Guides may not like being told what they can and cannot do, and provided you do not seek these changes for financial or ego reasons, be firm, and remember both you and the Spirit Guide have an extremely important responsibility to the Spirit World; to prove the continuation of life after death of the physical body. You are an ambassador for Spirit, fighting for their cause; the global recognition that the Spirit World exists. So if your Spirit Guide does not what to take on that responsibility you can refuse to work with them by literally firing them (a lot easier if you are clairaudient!); there will always be other Guides waiting to work with you!!
Generally Spirit Guides and communicators are not aware of what constituent’s good evidence that proves survival after death, because Spirit do not have a recommended code of practice to work from. So if your Mediumship is lacking in some way but you are happy with this standard, your Spirit Guide will see no reason to improve the way you work and the quality of evidence given to you.
The evidence that Mediums give should be of a standard that is beyond reproach, and that ultimate responsibility lies with the Medium and not the Spirit Guide.
