One day a young girl asked her grandfather if he loved her. He responded by giving her a big hug and telling her that she was very precious to him.

The grandfather asked his granddaughter what was in the small box she was holding, and she looked up at him and said with a big smile “I have bought you a present granddad”. And as he opened the box he laughed and said “What have I done to deserve this? It’s not my birthday.” He laughed even more when he took out a girls pink watch.

As he tried to put the watch on his wrist he teasingly said “I don’t think pink is really my colour, do you?” The granddaughter giggled and said “You really are funny granddad but you are not meant to wear it.” Oh! Replied the grandfather, somewhat confused but rather relieved.

“No granddad, my gift to you is time. This is our time, our moment of being together. The time for us. It is our opportunity of laughing and crying together. The time when we can hold out our hands in friendship and with our hands entwined we can begin our journey to discover who and what we really are. It is the time of caring. The time to forgive. The time to listen. It is the time of change, for time never stands still granddad, even though it is consistent and always there, time is forever moving – progressing onwards; and I give you this gift because I love you. For you are always there when I need you and with that she hugged him and said “This is my time to you.”

Words had failed the grandfather, but his heart sang out with joy, for within a few minutes he had received the most wondrous gift from his granddaughter – time. The time to say I love you, and thank you for being who you are.
Time is for sharing, it is the time to say we love each other.
